Weekly Passage - for week of 3/19/06

"No matter how many words anyone uses or how many acts he performs, he has done no more than acknowledge God, and I have done that.

"But I am going to do one additional thing. I am going to stop being 'me.' I am going to stop pretending, and I am going to let God take over my life and live it. I am not going to make any pretense about being good or being spiritual; I am not going to make any pretense about being charitable or benevolent because at best all my charities and all my benevolences are limited to comparatively small amounts. Never do I give all my resources away, so I cannot be quite as charitable or benevolent as sometimes I might like to think I am. I am charitable and benevolent only to the extent that I can let God function through me, and if I could let It function through me more fully, I could be more charitable and more benevolent and more loving and more patient. But at least in the degree that I can, I am making no pretense about Joel, and I am making no claim for him."

Chapter 6 - Measuring Spiritual Progress
